It's a long way
from Argyllshire, Scotland to Crystal River, but the McPherson's
were an instant hit when they decided to settle in Heritage
Village a few years ago, offering unique breakfasts and lunches
that drew rave reviews from customers.
When their lease expired in
the former establishment on Citrus Avenue, they bought the
property two doors west and began remodeling. This was a
long but rewarding undertaking, and the new building is now open
and seats about 40 diners .
The wrap-around
porch also offers additional seating where you will enjoy
a picturesque view of other Heritage Village Shoppes across the
street.
The
Highlander Cafe offers
hearty sandwiches on fresh ciabatta bread with side salads that
are artistic creations; soup du jour with flavors that taste
fresh from the garden; scones, pastries, cakes, pies and
coffees and smoothies to please every taste. And the
specialty of the house, a toasted bagel topped with cream
cheese, lox and a sprinkle of onion and capers.
All of the scones, pastries and other baked goods in the cafe
are made from scratch by Natalie, as are the soups du jour and
gourmet sandwiches served on Ciabatta or Panini bread.
You may also enjoy a cup of freshly ground and brewed coffee,
including espresso, cappuccino, cafe latte, cafe mocha and
macchiato, as well as regular blends and iced confections.
The
Highlander Cafe is owned and operated by Colin and Natalie
McPherson, and is located at 638 N. Citrus Avenue.
The
cafe will be open seven days a week until the end of December or
possibly longer. Hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. For information,
call 563-0028. |
